Jeffrey stumbles on opening day

South American Youth Games 2017…

On the opening day of Badminton Male Singles competition in Santiago, Chile at the South American Youth Games, Guyana’s Tyrese Jeffrey suffered two consecutive losses in the group stage.
After being pitted in Group A, Jeffrey opened against Argentine Mateo Delmastro and went down in straight sets of 21-12 and 21-4 before losing to Chilean Alonso Araya also in straight sets. This time Jeffrey was beaten 21-4 and 21-2. He is now at the bottom of the table and has a slim chance of progressing any further.
Up to press time, his female compatriot, Priyanna Ramdhani wasn’t fearing any better as she lost her opening fixture of her Female Singles category also in straight sets despite being more competitive.
She was beaten by Peruvian Micaela Vasquez 21-9; 21-16.
Ramdhani has two more fixtures and will hope she can do better when she comes up against Surinamese Erisa Bleau and Chilean Mickaela Hutt.
Guyana’s other representatives at the games are in Table Tennis, 3×3 Basketball and athletics.
Table Tennis is slated to begin today while the 3×3 Basketball will begin on Thursday and athletics on Friday.
Guyana’s basketball players are Shamar France, Nigel Bowen, Isaiah Hintzen and Akeem Crandon while the Table Tennis players are Miguel Wong and Nickolus Romain.
The athletes that will take to the track in a bid for medals are Kenisha Phillips, Deshana Skeete and Annalisa Barclay for the females while Mark Solomon and Jermain King are the male representatives.
