Raynauth Jeffrey started off the Guyana Cycling Federation (GCF) National Championships on a high when he topped a field consisting of Guyana’s top cyclists in the time trials on Saturday morning.
The time trial pedaled off from Hairuni on the Linden/Soesdyke Highway to Long Creek Primary School and back to the starting point in an eight mile run.
Jeffrey topped the field in a time of 14:20.25s while Jamal John came in sharply behind in a time of 14:35s with Romello Crawford (14:58s) to close out the top three in the seniors category.

Curtis Dey was first in the Juniors’ category with a time of 14:56s, Briton John 15:29s and Christopher Cornelius third with a time of 15:58s.
Over in the Veterans’ leg, Leer Nunes (16:06s) placed first some distance ahead of Marc Soniram who came in second in 16:50s and Lennox Jackman 17:08s in third.
Claire Fraser Greene was the top Ladies’ rider with a time of 18:54s.
The GCF National Championship will continue today at 8:00hrs with the road race beginning from Home Stretch Avenue with the Veterans, Juniors, Ladies and Juveniles. The Veterans and Juniors will proceed to camp Wesleyana on the Linden/Soesdyke Highway and return to the starting point. The Ladies and the Juveniles will make their way up to Timehri and return to Home Stretch Avenue.
