… Sampson bags junior and Mendes takes veterans’ title

Cycling action continued on Sunday as many of Guyana’s top riders in the senior, junior, and masters categories participated in a 50-mile road race that began at Carifesta Avenue and headed onwards to Mahaica, East Coast Demerara (ECD) before returning to the point of origin.

Part of the action during the day

Emerging as the winner in the senior category was Briton John with a time of 1:49:12, while coming in second was Marcus Keifer and third, Christopher Griffith. In the junior category, the winner was Sherwin Sampson, while in second and third were Aaron Newton and Alex Leung. In the masters’ category, first place went to Alex Mendes, while second and third went to Sequan Hubbard and Stephen Fernandes.

The prizes for the event were as follows: senior category – 1st – $20,000; 2nd – $18,000 and 3rd – $15,000; masters’ category – 1st – $15,000; 2nd – $12,000 and 3rd – $10,000 and junior category – 1st – $15,000; 2nd – $12,000 and 3rd – $10,000.
