The annual Cheddi Jagan Memorial Road Race was held on Sunday in Essequibo, with riders tackling a demanding 55-mile coastal route from Supenaam to Anna Regina Market square and back, as Briton John powered to victory in the Senior/Elite category.
John delivered a commanding performance, completing the course in 1 hour, 40 minutes, and 52.51 seconds while also dominating the sprint primes, collecting eight along the way.

He finished ahead of Alex Newton, who took second place, while Robin Persaud completed the podium in third. Ajani Cutting and Geron Williams rounded out the top five, with Seagon Hubbard finishing sixth.
In the other categories, Persaud returned to the top of the podium in the Open Veterans division, finishing ahead of Hubbard and Jaikarran Sukhai. The Over-50 category was won by Ian Jackson, with Mark Spencer and Talim Shaw taking second and third respectively.

Spencer also featured prominently in Category Four, where he secured second place behind winner Julio Melville, while Collis Williams finished third.
The Junior category saw Newton as the lone participant, while Abigail Jeffrey was the sole competitor in the Ladies division.
The event was supported by several sponsors, including Tamesh Jagmohan, Caricom Rice Mills Ltd, Builders Hardware, and General Supplies and Construction.
