Johnson, Barnwell slam centuries to give Jaguars lead

Leon ‘Captain Marvel’ Johnson and senior all-rounder Christopher Barnwell have proverbially ‘delivered the goods’ this season, each scoring centuries on day three of the Jaguars’ fifth round clash against the Windward Islands Volcanoes in the Regional 4-Day Championship tournament being played at St George’s, Grenada.Jaguars ended their first innings on 426 all out, having established a lead of 108 runs over the Volcanoes’ first innings score of 318 all out.

Johnson’s welcome return to form has even seen him running out of partners as he produced an unbeaten 189, his career’s best thus far, and it came off 357 balls and was laced with 20 fours.
Johnson put together a 74-run partnership with Shimron Hetmyer, who made 32, then added 170 runs with fellow city boy Christopher Barnwell. Barnwell, a positivist in batting, made 107 from 117 balls, including 11 fours and four sixes.

Johnson also added 82 runs with Anthony Bramble, with Bramble contributing 47; and 40 runs with Nial Smith, who contributed 11.
Bowling for Volcanoes, Preston McSween bagged 5-102 in 27 overs, while Bhaskar Yadram had 2-23.
At stumps, Volcanoes were 46-1 after 16 overs, with a deficit of 62 runs. Raymon Reifer bagged the lone Volcanoes wicket when he removed Roland Cato for two. Devon Smith is unbeaten on 16 while Kaveem Hodge is on 17.
