Johnson captain, Bramble deputy as GCB announce Super50 team

2018 Regional Super50…

Seasoned Guyana Jaguars captain Leon Johnson will resume his role as he prepares to lead a strong 14-man team into battle when the 2018 Cricket West Indies (CWI) Regional Super50 bowls off from October 3-28 in Trinidad & Tobago and Barbados.
The West Indies Test batsman, who has led Guyana to 4 straight Regional 4-Day titles, recently emerged leading run-scorer of the just concluded 2018 Guyana Cricket Board (GCB)/Cricket West Indies (CWI) Jaguars 50-Over League with 336 runs, including three fifties.
His deputy will be West Indies ‘B’ captain, wicket-keeper Anthony Bramble, who has also been on a high over the past few months, expanding his credential overseas.
The team, which features a few notable faces, was recently selected following good showings in the League as well as consistency and success in the franchise over the past few seasons.
Guyana’s batting will feature Johnson, Windies A and leading run-scorer for Guyana in the 4-Dayers last year, Chandrapaul Hemraj, opener Tagenarine Chanderpaul, hard-hitting all-rounders Sherfane Rutherford, Christopher Barnwell and Romario Shepherd, and Bramble.
This season also sees a return to Jaguars colours from opener Trevon Griffith, who made a strong case for national recall upon his return to Guyana following his stint with the Jamaica Scorpions. Griffith was among the best batters in the League, with a century and a fifty among other eye-catching innings to his credit.
Selectors have opted for a decent trio of left-arm spinners in Ricardo Adams, who will play a big role with bat as well; Gudakesh Motie, veteran Veerasammy Permaul, and franchise player Ramaal Lewis.
The seamer department will be led by Windies Test all-rounder Raymon Reifer, with pacer Clinton Pestano being the other frontline fast bowler named in the team. National youth all-rounder Ronaldo Alimohammed and wicket-keeper/batsman Kemol Savory, who finished with the most dismissals in the league, along with 176 runs, including a century, are on stand-by, and will join the team as selected players depart to fulfil their duties on the Windies tour to India.
The coaching staff for the Jaguars remains the same, with the seasoned duo of Esuan Crandon and Rayon Griffith being Coach/Assistant-Coach to manage the team. Griffith recently completed stints as West Indies ‘A’ Manager as well as Guyana Amazon Warriors Assistant Head Coach in the 2018 Hero CPL, while Crandon has been expanding his fame as he recently coached the Windies B team along with skipper Bramble in Canada. The team’s Physiotherapist is Neil Barry Jr.
Meanwhile, the Guyana Jaguars are scheduled to depart on Sunday 30th September, 2018 through the Cheddi Jagan International Airport as they prepare to capture the elusive 50-over title held by the Windward Volcanoes. (Clifton Ross)
