– Urges journalist to take greater pride in the profession
Legendary Guyanese broadcaster Joseph “Reds” Perreira on Wednesday held an interactive session with journalist at the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) secretariat. The veteran broadcaster who resides in St. Lucia was very happy to share ideas and give tips to journalist, especially to younger ones to assist in the quality
of their reporting.
He stressed on the importance of not just carrying press releases in its raw format but to follow up on possible areas because “what you can get out of it, is important”.
Perreira reminded journalists to be more involved in the particular sport being covered; to be present at games and to not always depend on gathering of information by phone calls. He also noted that “the public prefers to see the journalists at games or events.”
The longstanding broadcaster encouraged television companies to record as much of the game as possible, because it is important to capture the events that would lead to the final results.
Interviews with coaches and parents, especially mothers of athletes was also high on the agenda of the former Georgetown Football Club (GFC) goal keeper who made his first division debut for the club at only 16 years old.
The former football coach also touched on the importance of building personalities by urging journalists to place emphasis on not only teams but on players, coaches and officials.
“Reds” Perreira talked about his autobiography “Living my Dreams” and also credited the GFF for making the session possible.
