It is noted that the Government’s lawyer – no less a person than the Attorney General who is the legal representative of the Bar and of the nation – misbehaved in front of a Judge in court, and the Government (through the Prime Minister) has called on the presiding Judge to recuse himself from the case.
Just to get it right! The Government (lawyer) misbehaved and the Government asked the Judge to excuse himself from hearing the case. Is that fair! Is that justice?
How about the Government’s lawyer recusing himself from the case? Does not that seem more appropriate? Why is the Judge being punished and not the troublemaker? It is like rewarding the bully in a classroom after he beats up a few students. Only in Guyana! In a truly democratic another country like the US or Canada, the lawyer would be immediately suspended pending an investigation and hauled over hot coals – and could very well have his licence to practice suspended.
