Judge stresses importance of preparation for court cases

Having recently graduated from the Hugh Wooding Law School, Patricia Lorraine Shepherd was on Monday admitted to practice law in the courts of Guyana. Her admission petition was presented by former Solicitor General Kim Kyte-Thomas before High Court Judge Gino Persaud during a virtual hearing.
Shepherd holds a Legal Education Certificate (LEC) from the Hugh Wooding Law School, which she obtained on April 20, 2020. She is the holder of a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) which she obtained from the University of London in 2016. She is also an International Accredited Civil/Commercial Mediator, which she obtained from Alternative Dispute Resolution – Online Dispute Resolution International, London, United Kingdom, in 2018.
Additionally, she is also the holder of a Bar Professional Training Certificate from the BPP Law School, Leeds, United Kingdom, which she obtained in 2018 and was admitted to practice as a Barrister before the Courts of England and Wales in November 2018. Shepherd is coming to the legal profession armed with a Diploma in Business Management and a Certificate in Industrial Relations and Management.
Justice Persaud in his welcoming remarks impressed upon Shepherd the importance of preparation in the conduct of her practice and encouraged her to rely on the training she received at law school. In her address to the court, the lawyer thanked Justice Persaud for granting her application. Further, she expressed gratitude to God for his never-ending grace, mercy and provision during her journey. She also paid homage to her family for their support and motivation. Her parents, Liloutie Seymour and Richard Shepherd were also part of the virtual hearing.
