While the Strongfest event, which was held in Barbados, is done and dusted, the experience of the event and accomplishment for Junica Pluck will forever be something she remembers.

This seasoned Guyanese powerlifter competed in the powerlifting and strongwoman event of the competition. The powerlifting event consisted of powerlifting, squat, deadlift and bench press, while the Strongwoman event consisted of tyre flip, overhead press, farmer carry, yoke carry, sandbag carry/stone challenge and kettle bell backward throw.
In the powerlifting segment, Pluck was able to cop second place, which meant that she received silver in all 3 lifts. While on the strongwoman side of things she came in third, behind her fellow countrywoman Kean Andrews.

When asked how she feels about the results gained at the tournament, Pluck said, “The results were good. We all showed up with the mindset to win. I trained hard daily, sometimes twice daily, waking up 4:30 to prepare for training before work. Weekends taking time off from work to train. I’m satisfied with the results. I got silver (2nd) for all my lifts for the first event. Bronze (3rd) for the second day, which was the strong woman event, which was very challenging because I weighed less, so some events were challenging for me.”
Pluck further noted that the competition was not what she had expected. She explained that the time it started was really late, which caused a few athletes to drop out at the last minute. She also clarified that next on her agenda will be the seniors powerlifting in December, of which she noted that she has already started training, as she will be competing in the 63kg category with the intention to meet her total to compete overseas in 2023 to represent the Golden Arrowhead.
In closing Pluck said, “I’m grateful and very thankful for everyone who support and play a great part in my success at strongfest 2022.”
