After two days of intense battle at Harry Panday Tennis Court –on Tuesday and Wednesday — Joshua Kalekyezi came from behind to win the Sheltez/Homesafe Security Independence Cup U-18 title.
Kalekyezi lost 2-6 to Viraj Sharma in the first set, but recovered to win the second set 6-1 and take the tie breaker at 10-5 to capture a superb victory in an extended match.
He also defeated Sharma earlier in the tournament to take glory in the U-14 segment.
Both players will now turn their attention to Guyana’s premier tournament, Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry (GBTI) Open, which commences on Saturday, June 2.
