Kaneville man slapped with murder charge

A 25-year-old man from Kaneville, East Bank Demerara (EBD), has been charged with murder. Akesi Primo, also known as ‘Max’, was charged and remanded in custody.
The charge stems from an alleged attack on 48-year-old Derreck Sylvester Prostea of Grove, EBD, which occurred on Wednesday along the Grove Public Road, EBD. According to the police, the attack occurred during a misunderstanding that escalated into a fatal confrontation.
Reports indicate that the altercation occurred at about 18:45h. During the heated exchange, the younger man allegedly armed himself and stabbed Prostea to his right shoulder. The wounded man collapsed at the scene. Passersby reportedly rushed to his aid, and he was subsequently taken to the Diamond Hospital. However, despite efforts to save him, doctors pronounced him dead upon arrival.
Shortly after the incident, police ranks launched an operation based on information received. Their quick response led to the arrest of a suspect in the Kaneville area.
On Friday, Primo appeared at the Diamond Magistrate Court, where the charge was read to him. He was not required to plea to this Indictable charge and was remanded to prison. This matter was adjourned to June 9.
