Kaneville man stabbed to death

Derick Sylvester Prostea, a 48-year-old resident of Back Street in Kaneville, East Bank Demerara, was stabbed to death on Wednesday evening, following a confrontation which turned violent on the Grove Public Road, East Bank Demerara.
Police allege that Prostea was attacked by a 25-year-old man from Ally Street in Kaneville during a misunderstanding that escalated into the deadly encounter.
Reports indicate that at about 18:45h, when the altercation occurred, the younger man armed himself with a weapon, with which he stabbed Prostea to his right shoulder. The wounded man collapsed at the scene, and passersby rushed him to the Diamond Hospital. However, doctors pronounced him dead on arrival there.
Shortly after the incident, police ranks launched an operation to arrest the suspect, based on information received. Their quick response led to the suspect being apprehended in the Kaneville area. He remains in custody, and is said to be cooperating with investigators as the probe continues.
The Guyana Police Force is expected to seek legal advice as investigations progress, while an autopsy is likely to be conducted on the victim in the coming days.
