Kennard Memorial March 29 horse-race meet postponed

The Kennard Memorial Turf Club’s grand one-day horse race meet, which was set for staging on March 29, has been postponed amidst the situation regarding the outbreak of the coronavirus and the political turmoil in Guyana.
Justice (retd) Cecil Kennard, who made this disclosure, has said he is looking to run off the event at a later date; and if the situation in Guyana improves, he would be hosting the event on May 31.
Six events would be carded whenever the meet is staged. The major event is the C & Lower race over one mile, for which the champion horse would be awarded $600,000. The fee for entry to this race is set at $73,000.
Kennard explained that the meet would commence with the combined K Non-Winner & L-Open race, which would be run over six furlongs, with the top horse receiving $120,000. Entry to that race is set at $13,000.
The second event on the card is the combined H3-Winner of One Race and the Guyana-Bred Open category. This race will be run over seven furlongs, with the horse placing first being awarded $250,000. The entry fee is set at $30,000.
The third event on the card is the L Non-Earners race, which would be run over five furlongs for the winner’s prize of $100,000.
The fourth race on the card is the J3 and Lower, to be run over six furlongs for a winner’s purse of $160,000. Entry to this event is set at $18,000.
In the Three-year-old Guyana- Bred Open race, which would be run over seven furlongs, the winning horse would be awarded $250,000. Entry fee to this race is set at $30,000.
