Missingher finished 3rd as Guyana dominate podium

Guyana’s top distance runners, Cleveland Forde and Winston Missingher both finished in the top three as the pair represented Guyana well at the 17th annual Venture 5K run and fun walk held in Couva in southern Trinidad last weekend.

With over 2000 participants for the 5k race, Forde, popularly known in the racing fraternity as ‘Lil Kenyan’ was second to Kenyan runner, 24 year old Kenneth Rotich who ran a time of 14 minutes, 34 seconds (14m34s) while Forde clocked in 15m28s.

Missingher completed the podium just nine seconds behind Forde in a time of 15m37s. Pamenos Ballantyne of St. Vincent and the Grenadines came in fourth position while Trinidadian Curtis Cox managed to win fifth place with times of 15m44s and 15m56s respectively.

The event which was hosted by Venture Credit Union Co-operative Society Limited in Collaboration with Cuna Caribbean Insurance, under the theme “Bringing People Together”, began in front of the Venture building located at 32 Southern Main Road, Couva.

In the other 17 categories, stand outs include 25 year old Tonya Nero of Trinidad and Tobago, running at a time of 17m 05s to win the female open, Kade Sobers and Christine Regis, winning the male and female over 50-yaers old category respectively. Kester Joseph won the Physically Challenged category while 11 year old Atiya Croal copped the under 15 category.
