The Kevin Sinclair Foundation Tapeball Cricket Tournament will now be hosted at the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) after the Linden venue became unavailable. The one-day tournament bowls off at 09:30h on Sunday, January 11.
Despite the venue change, organisers have confirmed that the initiative will still directly benefit Linden, as proceeds from the event will be used to support cricket development in the community.
A total of 10 male teams and four female teams will compete in the tournament, which promises an exciting day of fast-paced tape ball action.
Guyana and West Indies all-rounder Kevin Sinclair, founder of the tournament, explained that the initiative was designed to positively impact Linden, a region he believes is often overlooked in cricket development.
“The idea is to give Linden an opportunity to play cricket and make a positive impact on the community,” Sinclair said. “Whatever funds we make will go into developing cricket in Linden, because these are areas that are not being targeted enough.”
Sinclair also reflected on his own journey, noting that support from others played a major role in his rise through the ranks.
“When I was coming up, my parents weren’t in a position to sponsor me for everything. A lot of people helped me, and I always said once I made it, I would give back,” he said.
That commitment led to the establishment of the Kevin Sinclair Foundation, which aims to assist young cricketers and individuals in need while Sinclair is still actively playing.
The tournament fixtures, released ahead of Sunday’s action, feature several intriguing matchups.
Eccles All-Stars will take on Ethan’s XI, while Team Corruption faces Sip & Play/Grill Master. Other clashes include Team Crown versus Team Infinity, Mahdia Movements against Diamond Warriors, and GDF versus Pure Entertainers.
With competitive fixtures, community-driven purpose, and a strong development focus, the Kevin Sinclair Foundation Tape ball Tournament is expected to deliver thrilling cricket while continuing to invest in the future of the sport in Linden.
