As the Preliminary Inquiry (PI) continues into the murder of Marlon Seon Rodney, called “George”, who was shot and killed earlier this year, the key witnesses failed to identify one of the accused.
Those charged for his murder are Osafa Grundell, 39, called “Safo” of Freeman Street, East La Penitence, Georgetown and James Fraser, 21, called “Dab” of Garnett Street, Georgetown.
The duo was not allowed to plead to the indictable charge which alleged that between April 25 and April 30 last, at Norton Street, Lodge, Georgetown, they murdered Rodney.
When the matter was called in the courtroom of Magistrate Faith McGusty, the key witness took the stand where she gave an extensive testimony as it relates to what she saw on the day Rodney was shot and killed.
The woman then indicated to the court that she became familiar with Grundell since she shared a relationship with his uncle for several years.
However, when Prosecutor Dominic Bess asked the woman to identify Grundell she remained silent.
The prosecutor, who was stunned at the response, repeated the question; however, this time, the woman smiled and replied negatively.
Nevertheless, she was able to positively identify Fraser as one of the perpetrators.
The Magistrate adjourned the case until January 10, 2020.
It was reported that on the day in question, 35-year-old Rodney, a taxi driver of Lot 71 Norton Street, Lodge, Georgetown, was involved in an argument with three individuals.
As the argument escalated, the men then pulled out guns and discharged several rounds at Rodney, who was hit in the left leg.
An injured Rodney was picked up and rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) where he succumbed to his injuries.
Two months ago, the burnt body of 36-year-old Collin Rodney, who was the cousin of Seon and the main witness in the murder PI, was discovered in the trunk of his silver-grey Toyota Allion motorcar.
However, Police are yet to confirm whether the body found in the car is that of Rodney. The man went missing while making his way to court to testify in the PI.
He was on the scene when his cousin was murdered.
