Khan, Ramraj seal emphatic win for Berbice

Defending U15 inter county champs Berbice produced a brilliant all round display to retain their title in Sunday’s rain-affected final versus a spirited Demerara team who went down by 35 runs.

Cricket lovers, staff and Executives of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB), witnessed a thrilling finals in a reduced 25 overs game due to the weather in the GCB/ Dave West Indian Imports Under-15 Inter County tournament.
Demerara won the toss and chose to field. Shafake khan and Chandrapaul Ramraj rocked through the Berbice team bowling them out for 88 in their allotted 25 overs.
Star player Jonathan Rampersaud top scored and was looking aggressive until he was caught by Taddus Lovell off of Khan’s bowling for 19, while Captain Zeynul Ramsammy and Mahendra Gopilall scored 15 each and Antwone Alexandra chipped in with 14.
Khan, who destroyed the Berbice side grabbed 4-14 while Ramraj took 3-15 and Zackary Jodah picked up 1-5.
In reply, Demerara struggle after losing two quick wickets in the first two overs with the score on 3 for 2 where both openers were bowled for without adding a score to the total.
Nicholas Rajpat came in at number three and took control of the game but could not manage with the Berbice bowling and lost his wicket to Jonathan Rampersaud who bowled him for 8 after which Romel Datterdeen was caught for 2, while Chandrapaul Ramraj top scored with 9 trying to bring his team back into the game but failed to do so.
Isia Thorne was the leading wicket taker grabbing 3 for 18 while Jonathon Rampersaud and Budhram Lakeram took 2 -15 and 2-5 respectively, taking their team to victory retaining their title once again.
The tournament saw the leading runs scorer award going to winning skipper Ramsammy with 63 runs.
Meanwhile, Rampersaud walked away with both the Man of the Match and Most Valuable Player awards with a total of 15 wickets in the tournament, a best of 5-12 in his bowling innings and a total score of 42 runs in the tournament.
