The competition saw countless rivalries, but in the end only one could walk away with the title. Emerging as the champion was Kasim Khan.
The results for the tournament were as follows:
* 1st: Kasim Khan – gross 74, Hc 7, net 67
* 2nd: Shanella London – gross 80, Hc 10, net 70
* 3rd (after a countback): Hilbert Shields – gross 84, Hc 13, net 71
* 4th: Vijay Deo – gross 82, Hc 11, net 71
At the end of the tournament, speaking on behalf of the LGC was Secretary Chet Bowling, who said, “It was good, it was well-attended. We had an approximate total of 30 persons, what I would term as the high point of the tournament was the fact that we had one or two other females competing in the competition. I hope that turns into a trend where we have more females participating in the future; so, hopefully, that grows.”
Bowling also went on to state another high point was the level of competitiveness at the 19th hole, as there was fierce competition as is evident in the scores. “There wasn’t much of a difference in the gross scores, it was fierce, but, of course, it was all done in camaraderie. The guys enjoyed the game, and so much so that they went back to play it again after the competition. We will also have a non-sponsored club tournament today, so from that we can see the sport is growing. What’s next for us is that we have some big brand names coming on board and we are slowly beginning to plan the Guyana Open, which may be slated for the end of October this year. But, nevertheless, we are looking to push the sport to higher heights.”
