King among Wisden debutants for 2025

Brandon King

West Indies batter Brandon King was among the top debutants listed by Wisden for the year 2025. A total of 49 players made their Test debut in 2025, and King’s start to Test cricket was a promising one.
He began in the middle order and then moved to open the batting at the end of the year in New Zealand. King was dismissed for 26 in the first Test innings he played at Bridgetown against Australia back in June.
In his second Test, King, batting at number four, struck a composed half-century of 75, top-scoring for the West Indies in that Test with their score of 253.
In the third and final Test against New Zealand last week in Mount Maunganui, he made 63 off 104 balls while top-scoring with 67 for the Caribbean side in the second innings against the Black Caps.
King averaged 27.66 in six Tests and has played pivotal knocks against stronger teams since arriving on the scene. West Indies Head Coach Daren Sammy also tipped King to be a long-term investment as the permanent opener in Tests.
In addition to King, the other players who made the cut as debutants for the year 2025 are Jake Weatherald, Sai Sudarshan, Lhuan-dre Pretorius, Josh Inglis, Dewald Brevis, Beau Webster, Jacob Duffy, Zak Foulkes, Brendan Doggett, and Asif Afridi.
Wisden is synonymous with cricket, best known for the iconic Wisden Cricketers’ Almanack, the world’s premier cricket annual, first published in 1864 by cricketer John Wisden. It features comprehensive records, Wisden Cricketers of the Year awards, and authoritative cricket commentary.
Beyond the Almanack, the Wisden brand includes the popular website wisden.com for live scores and news, the revived Wisden Cricket Monthly, and, historically, innovative tech such as Hawk-Eye and the Cricinfo website before they were sold.
