‘King of Studies II’ slated for January 25 staging

The highly anticipated football tournament dubbed King of Studies II is set for staging on January 25th near the newly constructed Behavioural Sciences Building on the University of Guyana campus at Turkeyen, ECD.

Captain of the tournament’s defending champions, Jamaine Samuels, was adjudged the inaugural tournament’s MVP and the player with the most goals

Created with the specific intention of encouraging student interaction and bringing people together at the University of Guyana, teams participating in this tournament are comprised of members drawn from various faculties, as opposed to what normally obtains at universities (inter-faculty sports).
The matches in this tournament will be played in two five-minute halves and in a round-robin style; after which the knockout stage, comprised of two semi-final games and the final game, would be staged.
Because this tournament is a one-day affair, all prizes won would be handed over on the day of its staging.
The first edition of this tournament, delayed by two weeks last year on account of a bomb scare, was eventually won by the team Hard Knocks. The eventual MVP — Hard Knocks captain Jamaine Samuels, who had scored the most goals in the tournament — walked away with one signature pair of Moov sneakers and a gold ring sponsored by Antonio Fredericks.
Team Hard Knocks will be aiming to keep its winning streak alive and be crowned two-time champions of this tournament, which facilitates 10 teams and accommodates as many as 100 students.
This year’s victorious team is set to walk away with a top prize of $100,000, while the runner-up team would earn $50,000 and third-placed team $25,000.
The champion team would be obliged to contribute 10% of its winnings towards a project its members choose to impact the university.
