King vs Jeffrey showdown promises to be mouthwatering

GMR&SC National Race of Champions…

All roads lead to the South Dakota circuit today as the Guyana Motor Racing & Sports Club (GMR&SC) hosts its National Race of Champions and arguably the biggest battle will see two of Guyana’s best group four drivers Kristian Jeffrey and Andrew King go bumper to bumper for the checkered flag.

Prior to last year, Jeffrey was the two-time Caribbean Motor Racing Champion (CMRC) but in the third outing seeking to cop the title a series of unfortunate events unfolded with his high powered Mitsubishi Evolution. However, at the last race meet in November he showed why he was the champion for two successive years by dominating the two races he entered.

On the other hand, the resurgence of the experience of King should offer some treat to fans in his upgraded Mazda RX7.  The veteran’s absence from the circuit was a result to a spinal injury but in recent reports he stated that he is fully fit and it is now just adapting to the improvements of his machine.

Jeffrey is known for his aggressive style of driving while the canny King will have to hope the saying “experience never fails” holds truth today.

Other seasoned campaigners such as Kevin Jeffrey and Rupie Shewjattan who also has an Evolution could make the group four category even more intriguing.

In group three, Nazim Gafoor and his gold-plated Mazada Miata,  Motilall ‘Kevin’ Deodass with his turbo-charged Starlet should make the this category interesting as well. Both Gafoor and Persaud will also take part in the group 4 action.

Likewise, Reigning Group Two champion, Shan Seejatan and his Honda Civic K20 stand a very good chance of repeating but the likes of Mohamad Roshandin, Chet Singh and Rameez Mohamed could stand in his way.

The Sports Tuner class promises to have its attraction as current champion Daniel Deokie has to battle against Sharima Khan, teammates Paul Jiwanram, Assad Hassan and Troy Muir.

On the two-wheel side of the action, the talented Vieira trio of Matthew, Elliot and Stephen will not be participating which leaves Kevin Persaud as the front runner to cop the crown in his Kawasaki brand motor bike.

In addition, the fans will be treated to their first bit of professional Drifting exhibition as two cars out of Suriname, A Honda S2000 and a Toyota Verossa, both sponsored by KGM Security Services will be drifting between races.

The two drifters, Oliver Tjin Liep Shie who will pilot the Honda and Argill Wreed who will be at the helm of the Verossa, have both indicated their readiness for the event, adding that they are excited to participate in the event.

The National Race of Champions is expected to attract a large group of drivers and riders, while spectator turnout is also expected to be massive. There are also a number of sponsors such as Stag Beer, Exxon Mobil, Fly Jamaica, Seaboard Marine, Palm Court, Rohit Lumber Yard, Rohan Auto Sales, B.M Soat Auto Spares, Special Auto, National Hardware, Tony’s Auto Spares, Japarts, Carnival Casino, Caricom Auto Sales, S. Jagmohan Hardware Supplies, Jialing, Choke Gas Station, E-Networks, Truck Masters and Prem’s Electrical.

Admission to the venue is $1,000 for adults and $500 for children under 12 years old.

The day’s activities are set to get underway at 09:00h
