Nestle Milo Caribbean is one of the official sponsors of the FC Barcelona team this year. Out of this sponsorship, the opportunity was given to five children within the Caribbean to train with the Barcelona coaches for two days. Fortunately, one of the prizes was awarded to Guyana as a means of developing sports.
To win this prize, Beepats, local distributors of Nestle Milo, organized a one-day football skill tournament, which was held on July 29 to ascertain a winner. This event was made a success through the tireless work of brand manager Renita Sital and her team.
Children between the ages of 7 and 12 years were invited to participate, and made to go through three skill sets: dribbling, short passing and control. As they went through the drills, they were judged (GFF coaches) based on skill and accuracy, and were awarded points based on their performances. At the end of the tournament, the judges’ scores were tallied, awarding the first place to Martin King, who would have recorded a total of 215 points.
Martin will be accompanied by one of his parents/guardians. Aside from the main prize, ten consolation prizes entailing US$75 and US$50 were awarded. Thanks to Nestle Milo and FC Barcelona, this opportunity was made possible.
