All curry lovers will head to the Guyana National Stadium, Providence, East Bank Demerara on Sunday for the 18th annual King’s Jewellery World Duck Curry Competition. With over $600,000 to be won in cash, over 20 groups from across the country have confirmed their participation.
These include groups from Berbice, Essequibo, East Bank and West Bank of Demerara, East Coast and West Coast of Demerara and Georgetown. In addition, there will be groups from Trinidad and Tobago, Suriname, the USA and Canada.
Apart from the monetary prizes, the winners will be awarded with trophies, hampers and certificates. This competition allows for the groups to marinate their duck meat at home.
On the day of the competition, the groups will be required to walk with their utensils and ingredients since the organisers will be providing the tables, chairs, stoves and gas. The competition starts at 14:00h with the judging at 16:30h.
Immediately after the judging, there will be stage performances, featuring Raymond Ramnarine, lead singer of Dil-E-Nadan Band out of Trindad and Tobago; and Guyana’s own Timeka Marshall. Other performers are also slated to perform during the competition.
The event is a family oriented one with lots of entertainment for the entire family. Admission to the event is absolutely free.
