Action in the Guyana Football Federation/Stag Super 16 Year End Tournament continued over the weekend with a double header which saw Ann’s Grove United and Victoria Kings securing victories at the Golden Grove ground on the East Coast of Demerara.
In the first matchup of the night, Ann’s Grove brushed aside the Falcons 3 – 0 to storm in to the next round. Taking command of the match in the 16th minute, Phillip Williams of Ann’s Grove netted one to give his side a 1-0 lead.
Needing an equaliser, the Falcons maxed out their substitutions in a vain search
for the breakthrough. When the Grove side sensed both an imbalance and lack of communication in the Falcons unit, they quickly went on to score their second goal 15 minutes into the final half, as Quincy Barry took the score to 2-0.
From there it was smooth sailing for the eventual victors, so much so that Ryan Sears put the final nail in the Falcons’ coffin with a goal in the 63rd minute.
In the showdown of the night, Victoria Kings made a thrilling comeback to defeat Buxton Stars 2 – 1. Eon Abel utilised the opportunity given in the 42nd minute to give the Stars the lead. However, in the second 45 minutes, the King’s dug deep and equalised through a Quinsi Holder goal in the 52nd minute.
Two minutes later, Holder returned with a bang to deny the Stars as the Kings took the lead for the first time; a lead which they held until the regulation time whistle.
