23-year-old Xamiera Kippins of La Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara (WBD) outshone her six rivals on Saturday evening to cop the title of Miss Earth Guyana 2018 when the competition was held at the National Cultural Centre.
Kippins was a front-runner to the title during the preliminary competition, and her winning the coveted crown came as no surprise to many.
Apart from the title, she received the accolade for the best Beauty for a Cause
Project, which showcased the solutions to improper disposal of non-biodegradable waste through recycling.
Coming in first runner-up was Luann Pellew, followed by Akisha Payne in the second runner-up spot, and Anita Baker copping the third runner-up position.
Kipping is no stranger to pageantry, having participated in several, including Miss Guyana Universe. She would have outdone her fellow contestants in several segments on Saturday evening.
Although, Kippins was favourite, sections of the small audience were not in agreement with the judges’ decision. Some thought that Payne should have been
crowned the queen, but according to the newly crowned beauty ambassador, she worked hard from the time the pageant was launched to the night of the grand coronation, and believes that hard work truly deserves success.
Kippins will represent Guyana at the international pageant slated for the later in the year in China.
