KMTC Christmas meet taking shape

– Registration ends December 17

Seven events are carded for this year’s Kennard’s Memorial Turf Club (KMTC) Christmas Meet with the B2 and Lower race set to be the highlight of the day.
Started in 1936, the Boxing Day one-day meet has become a tradition and this year horse owners, jockeys and turfites are expected to end the year of horse racing on an exciting note.
The feature event this year will see horses classified B2 and Lower covering a distance of nine furlongs with the winner set to ride away with $1,000,000 while $500,000 will go to the second place finisher, $250,000 for the third and $125,000 for the fourth place finisher.
Another milestone this year is that the featured race is being sponsored by the Kharag family for the tenth consecutive year. The faithful sponsors reside in New York City and are the owners of Metro-Office and Computer Supplies locally. Ramnarine “Deo” Kharag is a former president of the KMTC and the day’s big race is held in his honour.
Other events for the day are the F and Lower, H and Lower, J3 and lower, L Class Non-Winners, L Class Open and the race for 2-year-old Guyana Bred horses all for fabulous cash prizes and trophies.
The cream of the country’s horses are expected to take to the starting gates at Bush Lot Farm on the Corentyne to keep the tradition alive while registration is ongoing.
