Police have launched an investigation into the robbery which occurred in the vicinity of the Orchid Garden Hotel and Mall as a taxi driver was waiting to pick up a passenger.
Reports are that at about 01:30h, the 47-year-old driver of Golden Grove, East Bank Demerara, had stopped and was awaiting a customer when he was confronted by two men, one of whom was armed with a knife.
It is alleged that the armed suspect placed the knife at the victim’s neck while he and his accomplice relieved the driver of a Samsung Galaxy A10 cell phone valued $45,000; one silver band valued $60,000; one gold ring valued $80,000 and one keypad valued $40,000 before making good their escape.
A report was made to the Police and an investigating has been launched. (g2)
