Knife-wielding teen kills 3-year-old nephew, brother-in-law

– 2 others remain critical in ICU

A frustrated teenager went berserk on Thursday at his home in Pomeroon River, Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam), where he attacked and killed his brother-in-law and three-year-old nephew. The incident occurred at about 15:30h.

The dead man has been identified as 55-year-old Ramdat Singh also called “Shami” of Bat Creek, Upper Pomeroon River, and formerly of Aberdeen, Essequibo Coast and the dead lad has been identified as three-year-old Kissoon Williams.
In addition, after stabbing Singh, the teenager, who was reportedly in self-isolation after he tested positive for COVID-19, attacked three children and his two sisters.
One of the women and three children were stabbed about the bodies while the other woman’s throat was slashed.
The deceased along with the injured persons were rushed to the Charity Hospital where Ramdat Singh was examined by a doctor on duty, who pronounced him dead.
The injured persons were all transferred to the Suddie Hospital, with two of them being rushed to the theatre for emergency surgery. The other three were treated and placed in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Their condition is regarded as stable. The teenager has since fled the scene.
However, the suspect’s sister, Joanie Williams, 22, reportedly told investigators that she and her three children – aged six, three and one along with her other sister, Jennel Williams, left home and went to a landing to bathe.
The landing is reportedly located some 100 feet from their home. At that time, she recalled that the suspect was sleeping.
After spending some time at the landing, she and two of her children left the landing for home, leaving her sister and the other child at the landing bathing.
Nevertheless, as she made her way home, she saw her brother holding a knife as he walked towards Singh, who was standing in the yard. The young man then confronted Singh and dealt him several blows about the body. The injured man reportedly collapsed.
Upon seeing this, Williams grabbed her two children and started to run but the suspect went in pursuit of her. She was subsequently intercepted and stabbed four times to the chest.
As she attempted to run away from him, he stabbed her one-year-old son to his back and the other sustained a stab wound to the lower abdomen.
Not satisfied, he turned his attention, to his other niece, who was at the landing and slashed her throat. He also attacked his older sister, Jennel Williams and stabbed her four times to the chest.
Singh was stabbed once to his chest and once on both sides of his abdomen. His body was taken to the Suddie Hospital Mortuary awaiting a post-mortem.
Meanwhile, the suspect, a 15-year-old was on Friday evening arrested in the presence of his father.
Following the arrest, it was observed that he had a stab wound to the chest and a cut around his neck. He later admitted that he attempt to kill himself.
He was taken to the Charity Police Station and afterwards escorted to the Charity Hospital where he was treated and handed over to the police.
