The $85 million bridge that was under construction in Kumaka, Mabaruma, Region One (Barima-Waini), is said to be completed and will be commissioned today.
The new 60-foot bridge replaced another wooden structure which caused flooding in the Barabina Hill community at Mabaruma.![](https://guyanatimesgy.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/Kumaka-Bridge-150x150.jpg)
According to the Regional Executive Officer (REO), Randolph Storm, the structure has been completed and is being cured for a few days.
The new structure was built on a steel frame while concrete works were subsequently undertaken. The bridge is said to be a critical link between several areas.
He stated that the old wooden structure was replaced by the concrete bridge, which was built without a conduit for the water from a nearby creek to pass.
Storm further indicated that a number of projects will be commissioned, including the Canal Bank Primary School at Port Kaituma and another school at White Water Village, North West District.
