Home News Kumaka Bridge completed, to be commissioned today
The $85 million bridge that was under construction in Kumaka, Mabaruma, Region One (Barima-Waini), is said to be completed and will be commissioned today.
The new 60-foot bridge replaced another wooden structure which caused flooding in the Barabina Hill community at Mabaruma.
According to the Regional Executive Officer (REO), Randolph Storm, the structure has been completed and is being cured for a few days.
The new structure was built on a steel frame while concrete works were subsequently undertaken. The bridge is said to be a critical link between several areas.
He stated that the old wooden structure was replaced by the concrete bridge, which was built without a conduit for the water from a nearby creek to pass.
Storm further indicated that a number of projects will be commissioned, including the Canal Bank Primary School at Port Kaituma and another school at White Water Village, North West District.
