Former St Rose’s High School student, Cicelia Corbin is among the newest attorneys-at-law admitted to the Guyana Bar. Haling from Kuru-Kuru, Soesdyke-Linden Highway, Corbin graduated from the Hugh Wooding Law School on September 4, 2020, having earned her Legal Education Certificate (LEC).
Her petition for admission to the Bar was presented by her sister, State Counsel Tuanna Hardy before Chief Justice Roxane George at the High Court in Demerara. The new lawyer gained passes in 12 subjects at the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) examinations.
Thereafter, she continued her studies at St Rose’s High School, where she graduated with an Associate Degree in Humanities at the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE). According to her, during that time she participated in the annual Youth Parliament session of 2013 and was adjudged best speaker in the main debate as well as the most disciplined parliamentarian.
Corbin graduated from the University of Guyana in 2018 with her Bachelor of Laws degree. While attending the university, she was an active member of the Moot Court Guyana. This young woman participated in the Aubrey Bishop Mooting Competition in 2017 and was named best speaker.
During the said period, she participated in the annual Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) Mooting competition. From 2018-2020, she attended the Hugh Wooding Law School in Trinidad. While there, Corbin participated in the Children’s Rights Mooting Competition in 2019, held in the Netherlands in which her team placed third overall.
She is the daughter of Marilyn Williams, Head Teacher of Yarrowkabra Primary School; and Cecil Corbin, Superintendent of Works at the Ministry of Culture Youth & Sport.
