The incident occurred around 21:30h in the vicinity of Kairuni.

A relative told the Guyana Times that the young man was working as a mason at Kairuni and left the worksite to go to make a purchase at a nearby shop. He was in the company of his brother and two cousins when the accident occurred.

According to the Police, Boodhoo and the others were walking along the eastern side of the Kairuni road proceeding south when they heard a vehicle approaching from behind. One of the persons in the group said he looked back and observed that the vehicle was approaching at a fast rate of speed, which caused him to pull the person next to him to safety.

However, the teenager was hit from behind by the vehicle, which then drove away in a southern direction. Boodhoo fell onto the road surface where he received injuries about the body.

The relative related after the car hit Budhoo and drove away, a friend jumped on his motorcycle and followed it. The friend reported that it was a red motorcar bearing number plate PZZ 2881.

He was picked up in an unconscious condition by the Police and public-spirited citizens, placed into a passing vehicle and taken to the MacKenzie Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The driver is still on the run along with the car.
