A Kwakwani, Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice) man was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment by Magistrate Wanda Fortune after he was found guilty of physically assaulting a woman. The sentence was handed down to Hughburn Chase during a virtual appearance at the Kwakwani Magistrate’s Court.
He was charged for unlawfully assaulting the Virtual Complainant (VC), Kim Ford, so as to cause her actual bodily harm. Court documents revealed that Chase slapped the VC and dealt her several lashes with a rake during an altercation at the Unamco Junction in the Upper Berbice River on September 6. Chase was previously released on $20,000 bail.
