Kwakwani Untouchables, Bounty Colts and Stabroek Eagles seal playoff spots
The final regular season games of the One Guyana Basketball League were underway at the National Gymnasium over the weekend, as Kwakwani Untouchables, Bounty Colts and Stabroek Eagles sealed their places in the playoff which is set for January
In the opening game of the night, Kwakwani Untouchables managed to come out of the group stage with only one defeat after they annihilated the defence of Black Caimans, who were winless with the scoreline reading 89-32 in favour of Kwakwani.
The Bounty Colts annihilated the McDoom/ Prospect Kobras, with the Colts in the first quarter of the game scoring 19 points while their opponents failed to get the ball into the basket as often as they were limited to 13 points.
The second quarter was beneficial for the Kobras, who were deemed tournament favourites, who scored 21 points while their opponents failed to put the ball through the net consistently – scoring 17 points.
The Stabroek Eagles Team
The third quarter was dominated by the Colts, who put the ball through the net, bouncing their total points to 63.
The Colts secured the win in the final quarter, by scoring 35 points, for a total of 98 at the end of the game.
The Stabroek Eagles managed to end the group unbeaten as they dominated UG Trojans pushing them into the last spot for qualification to the next round despite the Trojans having a commanding lead in the first quarter against the Eagles, with the scoreline reading 18-15.
The Eagles would then dominate the game in the second quarter, scoring 16 points to elevate their score to 31 while limiting the Trojans to 12 points for a total of 30 points.
In the next quarter, the Eagles managed to put up a fight, but the Trojans’ defence was tough, limiting them to 11 points for 42 points in total. The Trojans seemed to rain a lot of three’s offensively, scoring 23 points for a total of 53.
The tournament-winning team will pocket $1 million along with trophies, while the runners-up will receive $500,000 plus trophies.
