Kwakwani Utilities Inc honours top 10 NGSA, CSEC performers

“KUI would like to honour you because you were outstanding at your academics for the last five years. We have to honour these kids because of their hard work; dedication towards education and to be able to achieve what they would have achieved during a pandemic and for these children to be this successful despite limited access to the internet, we should all feel proud of them.”

These were the sentiments of General Manager of Kwakwani Utilities Inc, David Adams during an award ceremony on Monday to honour the top 10 pupils at the recently concluded National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA) and the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) exams.

Adams during his presentation related that it is imperative that the company recognise the hard work and dedication of the top pupils of Kwakwani despite a series of unprecedented hardships, making it somewhat challenging for many students to perform at their best.

In the utility company’s efforts to acknowledge the students’ outstanding academic achievements, each pupil was gifted an electronic tablet during the company’s inaugural award ceremony which was held at the Kwakwani Management Centre.
Chief Accountant Officer of the Hinterland Electrification Company Inc (HECI), Annie Ramnarine urged the students to take charge of their adulthood and brace themselves for a life of many obstacles.

“I won’t lie to you, it’s not going to be an easy road, your parents can tell you that. Don’t ever give up on achieving your goal in life; don’t ever give up your dreams for nothing; just embrace it, it’s part of growing up, it doesn’t matter how difficult it might seem to be, that is what moulds you to be a strong person in life,” she encouraged.
The NGSA top performers were encouraged to continue striving for excellence as they move to a new learning environment and more so, were charged to do their best. Ramnarine also implored parents to encourage their children to keep on thriving in their academic pursuits.
“I want all of you to pursue your dreams and your goals and to make Kwakwani proud,” she urged.
Adams, in his charge to the CSEC top performers, related that their secondary education has been completed and they can either advance their education or enter the world of work, hence, he noted that whichever path they decide to take, discipline is required.
With the limited availability of jobs to match one’s academic achievements in the Upper Berbice district, the General Manager vowed to create employment for the young scholars who wish to enter the world of work, while also signalling the company’s intent to pledge its support to pupils who desire to enter a university and training programme offered through the Board of Industrial Training (BIT).
The top 10 performers at the NGSA examinations are Delica Patoir, Raphella Rambarran, David Ketwaroo, Leniera Sampson, Tyreek Sampson, Jemimah Marcus, Tehier Conway, Shavis Smith, Roshad Callendar, and Shaunte Hyderkhan.
Meanwhile, Kwakwani’s CSEC top performers are: Sheshouna Munroe, Keron Smith, Jalen Jones, Demarcus Adams, Raulston Downer, Kwame Primo, Kimberly Busgith, Nejalyn Patterson, Lynton Osborne, and Herly Hercules.
