Dear Editor,
The recent compelling Navaratri address by Minister Kwame McCoy at the Sanskaar Bhaarati International Guyana Hindu Mandir perfectly encapsulates the core philosophy driving our current Administration. When Minister McCoy urges Guyanese to reject deception, misinformation, and the destructive pursuit of division, he is not speaking in a vacuum. Instead, his words directly echo the national vision consistently championed by President Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali and the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) Government.
Across Guyana, we are witnessing a unified, deliberate message from our leadership – progress requires collective responsibility, truth, and the absolute rejection of divisive politics. This message is backed all the time with concrete activities throughout Guyana.
We all know that President Ali has made this the cornerstone of his presidency through his signature “One Guyana” initiative. Time and again, the President has reminded us that the rapid economic transformation we are experiencing cannot be sustained if we allow envy or personal grievances to fracture our social fabric. President Ali’s frequent community outreaches – where development is brought directly to the people regardless of political or ethnic affiliation – stand as living proof of this philosophy. By prioritising human dignity and peaceful co-prosperity, the President sets the tone that Minister McCoy powerfully intoned during the festival.
We see this same message being actively translated into policy across the PPP/C Government. Whether it is the equitable distribution of housing, the massive expansion of the GOAL scholarship programme, or infrastructural developments spanning every single region, the Government’s actions show that the welfare of the community must always override personal or partisan interests.
Minister McCoy’s profound reminder that “the true victory of righteousness is not simply the defeat of an adversary but more so the triumph of truth” serves as a timely call to action for every citizen. The PPP/C Administration, from President Ali to his Cabinet Ministers, is making it clear that a progressive society cannot move forward if falsehood is used as a weapon or if revenge replaces reason.
Regrettably, this profound call for truth and cohesion stands in stark contrast to the continuous actions of the Opposition. Rather than offering constructive alternatives or matching this collaborative vision, the APNU+AFC leadership relentlessly seeks to thwart national progress by weaponising identity politics, spreading misinformation, and manufacturing artificial grievances. Whether through attempting to boycott national unity initiatives or trying to sow distrust in sweeping public sector advancements, their strategy relies on the very division, envy, and pursuit of political revenge that Minister McCoy warned against. By prioritising partisan obstruction over the collective well-being of the Guyanese people, the Opposition’s tactics serve only as a regressive attempt to derail the massive socio-economic transformation currently sweeping our nation.
As we reflect on the spiritual lessons of Navaratri, let us heed this synchronised call from our leaders. Let us reject the mischief of those who wish to derail our national progress and instead work together to build a Guyana anchored in truth, unity, and shared prosperity.
Yours sincerely,
Hargesh B Singh
