La Grange man gets 3 years for ganja farming

A La Grange, West Bank Demerara man was sentenced to three years’ imprisonment on Monday by Magistrate Clive Nurse when he appeared at the Linden Magistrate’s Court charged for cultivation of cannabis.

Imtiaz “Sancho” Shaheed admitted that he was found tending to ganja plants on May 26 during a Police eradication exercise at Ituni Road, Upper Demerara. The ranks of E Division (Linden-Kwakwani) during the raid discovered a three-acre cannabis farm, two tents, and a quantity of dried cannabis along with a quantity of groceries.

The suspect was reportedly alone. The Police destroyed the plants and tents. The 41-year-old man was also fined $30,000.
