Labourer killed by speeding car while attempting to cross road

A pedestrian was on Sunday killed after he was struck down by a speeding motor car while attempting to cross the Mon Repos Public Road, East Coast Demerara (ECD).

Dead: Vickram Budhram

Dead is 44-year-old Vickram Budhram, a labourer of Lot 24 First Street North Mon Repos, ECD.
Although details of the accident remain sketchy, Guyana Times understands that the fatal accident occurred at about 14:00h.
At the scene, eyewitnesses explained that the now dead man was attempting to cross the road when the motor car, bearing registration number PPP5422, which was being driven at a fast rate, collided with the man. Upon contact, the man was tossed about 80 feet away from where he was struck and landed on the roadway.
Emergency crews responded and found the man lying in a motionless state. He was subsequently pronounced dead.
The driver of the vehicle involved in the accident is presently in Police custody.
Meanwhile, the man’s daughter, Kareena Budhram, explained that her father had left for work at about 05:00h and did not return. She noted that she was at home just after 14:00h when someone from the neighbourhood came to their home and informed her that her father was involved in an accident.
“An uncle from around the corner come by us and told me that my father get knock down and I just drop everything and run out. When I go out, I see him lying down”, she said.
The dead man’s daughter said that she is traumatised by her father’s death and is scared to live without him, since he has been her protector and provider from birth.
“I do not live with my mom; I live with my father and he would take care of me and my two brothers. I am very scared and terrified to be without my father. My father was a good person that worked very hard to take care of his kids”, the teen explained.
The family is calling for answers and justice for their loved one, since they believe his death was too sudden. Budhram leaves to morn his wife and three children. A probe into the fatal accident is underway. (G9)
