An East Bank Essequibo (EBE) man was on Saturday struck by a car while crossing the Organestein Public Road, EBE. The accident occurred sometime around 05:30h.
Dead is Courtney Ashby, a labourer of Lot 2133 Z Tuschen New Scheme, EBE.
According to Police reports, motorcar PRR 5883, driven by a 24-year-old residence of Plaisance, East Coast Demerara, was heading in the direction of Parika, EBE, when the 40-year-old man, who was standing on the southern side of the public road, allegedly ran across and into the path of the vehicle.
The man was struck down and was subsequently picked up in an unconscious state and taken to the Leonora Cottage Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
His body is presently at the Ezekiel Funeral Home awaiting a post-mortem.
Meanwhile, a breathalyser test was conducted on the driver and his breath alcohol level was found to be below the legal limit. Nevertheless, he remains in custody and is assisting with the investigation.
