Labourer robbed by gun-toting bandits

…suspects fire shot at Police patrol

A 26-year-old man has been left in shock, and is counting his losses after he was robbed by two men armed with a gun on Tuesday evening.
The Police have said that the labourer was heading south on Sugrim Singh Road at Ogle, East Coast Demerara (ECD) at around 19:30h when he was confronted by the two unidentifiable male suspects who were on a motorcycle (registration number unknown).
Approaching the labourer from behind, the men reportedly stopped him and pointed a handgun at him, before taking away his LG smart phone valued at $30,000 and pushing him into a trench on the western side of the road.
At the time, a Police patrol from the Sparendaam Police Station, ECD was in the area, and ranks, having seen the two suspects as they were boarding their motorcycle, gave chase. The pillion rider then discharged a round in the direction of the officers, but no one was injured.
According to the cops, they were unable to return fire due to the traffic in the area.
The suspects made good their escape into D Field Turkeyen, ECD. Checks were made in the area, but the suspects were not found. Investigations are ongoing. (G9)
