A labourer was shot dead on Wednesday evening while consuming alcohol at a shop at Tamakay Farback Backdam, Mazaruni River, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni). Dead is Barnwell “Barnie” Thomas.
Police investigations revealed that at about 21:00h on Wednesday evening, the now dead man was at the suspect’s shop imbibing. Police sources confirmed that an argument was heard between the two men followed by a loud explosion.
However, after being shot, Thomas exited the shop and ran toward another shop screaming “he just shoot me! He just shoot me!”
The injured man then collapsed and upon checking, blood was oozing from his chest. It is believed that he was shot once to the stomach. After a short while, he took his last breath.
The police were contacted and the body is being escorted to the Bartica Regional Hospital. Up to Friday evening, a police source confirmed that the body had not arrived at the mortuary. The source also stated that the shop owner, who is the prime suspect in the death of the labourer, has since gone into hiding.
Earlier this week, 43-year-old Glenroy Chapman also called “G”, of Lot 130 Half Mile, Wismar, Linden, was killed execution-style in front of his yard while chatting with a friend.
It was reported that the father of eight was sitting under a shed in the company of a male friend when the lone gunman approached them and discharged several rounds in his direction.
The friend managed to dash to safety. Chapman was reportedly shot several times about his body. The injured man was transported to the Linden Hospital Complex (LHC) where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The suspect in the shooting is still on the run.
