Labourer shot to heel during row over money

A 19-year-old was rushed to the New Amsterdam Hospital after being shot to his leg during a row over money at My-My Dam in Angoy’s Avenue, New Amsterdam, Berbice on Thursday. He has been admitted a patient in stable condition.
Based on information received, the teenager and the suspect’s brother had a misunderstanding over some money owed to him, and the argument quickly escalated into a scuffle between them.
Upon seeing the commotion, the suspect ran out of his yard with a shotgun in his hands. As the teenager realised that the man was armed, he attempted to escape, but the suspect discharged one round, hitting him to his ankle and causing him to fall to the ground.
Upon hearing the gunshot, persons in the area ran out to enquire, and saw the teenager lying on the roadway. He was taken to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital, where he was treated and admitted a patient.
The matter was reported to the Police, and a manhunt has been launched for the suspect. Guyana Times understands that the Police have already taken statements from the injured teen and a friend who was with him at the time of the incident.
