Lady Jags aiming to remain on top tonight

The Lady Jags, a team of alert and determined Guyanese players, experienced the sweet taste of victory on Friday evening at the Leonora Stadium when they mauled Suriname 6-1 to surge to the top of their group.
Currently sitting atop Group E with 4 points, the Guyanese ladies continue their campaign to attain glory in the CONCACAF Caribbean Women’s qualifiers.
Although Guyana’s superior goal difference has kept them marginally on top this group, compliments of a stunning outcome against the Surinamese, the dangerous Bermuda lurk right on their tail with 4 points as well. Barbados follow closely with 3 points, while Suriname is yet to get on the board, having lost two consecutive matches.

Guyana’s Brianne Desa against Bermuda

The action continues this evening with Bermuda taking on a hapless Suriname side from 17:30 hrs, before Guyana, in their quest to progress, tackle Barbados at 19:30 hrs.
At the behest of Head Coach Ivan Joseph, the hosts on Friday made a few changes in their lineup of players to take on Suriname, and it resulted in an impressive comeback after their 2-2 encounter with Bermuda on Thursday evening. Tiandi Smith, Alicia Zaban, Ghilene Joseph and Taylor White (GK) were added to the Guyana lineup of 11, and Guyana emerged victorious in this crucial match.
Sabrina Rigters, in the 38th minute, registered Suriname’s lone goal in the match against Guyana. Unfortunately for the visiting team, no other player could find the back of the Guyana net for the remainder of the game.
Lady Jags’ Brittany Persaud commenced Guyana’s rain of goals in the 40th minute with a successful free kick. Brianne Desa then scored for Guyana in the 45th minute. Calaigh Copland and Sydney Cummings added to the goal count in the 58th and 65th minutes; and Brittany Persaud doubled her goal count in the 67th minute, whilst Tiandi Smith closed off the game on a high note with the sixth goal in the 88th minute.
Earlier in the night, Bermuda recorded a 3-2 victory over Barbados, whose Felicia Jarvis scored the first goal of the game in the 11th minute. Bermuda’s Akeyla Furbert, Teyah Lindo and Deshae Darrell then put victory out of reach of the Bajans, even after they had secured their second goal.
