Lady Jags billed for international action next Wednesday

Guyana’s national women’s football team, the Lady Jags, will storm into action next Wednesday, marking their first international assignment for the year 2022.
Slated to take on the ladies out of Dominica on February 16 at the Leonora Track and Field Facility, West Coast Demerara (WCD), Lady Jags begin their journey on the road to the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Then the Lady Jags will jet out to Turks and Caicos Islands, where they will take on the Turks and Caicos national women’s team at their National Academy for their first away game.

The Lady Jags will kick-start their 2022 international calendar on Wednesday, February 16

Based on the fact that the Lady Jags are in Group F of the competition along with Dominica, Turks and Caicos Islands, Trinidad and Tobago and Nicaragua, they will have home and away assignments against the latter two teams in several weeks’ time.
With six groups in the CONCACAF Women’s Qualifiers competition, the top finisher from each group will gain automatic qualification to the CONCACAF Women’s Championships. The US and Canadian Women’s teams have already qualified for the tournament based on their first- and second-place rankings in the CONCACAF region.
The Women’s Championships will act as CONCACAF’s Qualifier for the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand 2023 and the 2024 Paris Summer Olympic Games.
With eight teams will participating in the 2022 Women’s Championships, inclusive of the USA and Canada, and the six CONCACAF W Qualifiers group winners; the top two finishers in each group will cement their spot in the competition’s semi-finals and more importantly, earn their qualification to the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia and New Zealand 2023.
Thereafter, the third-place finishers in the group will have the chance to play in the FIFA Women’s World Cup intercontinental play-off.
The eventual CONCACAF Women’s Champion will also guarantee themselves a spot in the 2024 Paris Summer Olympic Games Women’s Football Tournament and the 2024 CONCACAF W Gold Cup.

Mexico, Puerto Rico, Suriname, Antigua and Barbuda and Anguilla

Group B:
Costa Rica, Guatemala, Saint Kitts and Nevis, US Virgin Islands, and Curacao

Group C:
Jamaica, Dominican Republic, Bermuda, Grenada and Cayman Islands

Group D:
Panama, El Salvador, Barbados, Belize and Aruba

Group E:
Haiti, Cuba, Honduras, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and British Virgin Islands

Group F:
Trinidad & Tobago, Guyana, Nicaragua, Dominica and Turks and Caicos Islands
