Laing Avenue man gets 10 years for 2010 murder of relative

Lloyd Greene of Lot 140 Laing Avenue, Georgetown who was on remand for the past nine years for the murder of Earl France has finally pleaded guilty to the lesser count of manslaughter on Thursday in the High Court.
For his admission of having caused the man’s fatal stabbing on April 26, 2009 at Laing Avenue, Greene was sentenced to 10 years in prison by Justice Sandhill Kissoon.
The 40-year-old labourer who has battled mental illness was deemed fit to stand trial. In computing Greene’s sentence, Justice Kissoon considered the time Greene spent awaiting trial, his guilty plea and the fact that he showed remorse

among other things.
According to reports, the accused had gone through four Preliminary Inquiries (PIs) before he was committed to stand trial at the High Court by Georgetown Magistrate Dylon Bess in May 2014.
His Attorney, Adrian Thompson told Justice Kissoon that the amount of time his client spent awaiting trial was unreasonable. He also highlighted that Greene was raised by his mother since his father was not around and as such, requested the court’s mercy. According to the facts presented by State Prosecutor Lisa Cave, the now deceased man was visiting his cousin at Laing Avenue when the mother of France’s three children took the young children to visit him.
Some time later, France and Greene had a fight which resulted in France being stabbed in the left side of his chest. He was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. A post-mortem examination gave his cause of death as shock and haemorrhage owing to stab wounds to the heart. Greene was said to be 24 years old at the time of his demise.
