The Guyana Police Force (GPF) landlines in Charity, Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam) have been inoperable for the past two years, posing a great inconvenience to residents helpless in cases of emergencies.
The Charity Police Station was lucky enough to be gifted a wireless desktop telephone just recently by its Station Management Committee and the business community.
Reports can now be made via telephone through contact numbers 613-0573 and 672-0140.
G Division (Essequibo Coast and Islands) Commander Khali Pareshram told <<<Guyana Times>>> on Monday, “The lines have been down in excess of two years due to a technical fault by GTT. Before now residents would complain that they cannot get in contact via telephone with the ranks to share information or make reports, so with this device now they can now get a quicker response from the Police by getting in contact with us via telephone in terms of incidents, in terms of sharing information and making reports, etcetera.”
He complained that the technicians at GTT were unable to rectify the issue after two years. This newspaper’s efforts to contact GTT for a comment on the matter proved futile.
