Landlord charged for barring tenant’s access

A landlord who removed the stairs to the house that he was renting, so as to prevent his tenant from entering the property was on Friday charged when he appeared before Magistrate Brendon Glasford.
Abdool Peters, 34, appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts, where he pleaded not guilty to the charge which stated that between December 28 and 29, 2016 at 51 D’Urban Street, Lodge, Georgetown, he, being the landlord of the said premises, removed the steps with intent to prevent Alicia Knight from entering the premises.
According to the landlord, Knight refused to pay her rent and as such, he took matters into his own hands.
His Attorney, Dexter Todd successfully petitioned for bail, which was granted in the sum of ,000. Peters is scheduled to make his next court appearance on January 16, 2016.
