– contestant vying for the Miss Region 3 Cultural 2017 title
As Guyana Times Entertainment continues to feature the delegates vying for the title of Miss Region Three Culture 2017, billed for April 1 in the parking lot of Leonora Synthetic Track, West Coast Demerara (WCD), this week’s focus is placed on Latanya Pearce.
“Confident”, “scintillatingly beautiful” and “culturally inclined” are just a few of the terms used to describe this WCD beauty. Originating from the closely knitted village of Vergenoegen, on the East Bank of Essequibo, she has strong roots in the Carib and Warrau tribes.
Born on July 7, 1993 to Mr and Mrs Pearce, she attained her secondary education at the Zeeburg Secondary School, where she was successful at the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) by gaining nine subjects.
However, she further ventured into achieving her tertiary education and is now an adept Medical Laboratory Technician with aspirations of becoming a doctor.
Much like a few extraordinary individuals, she enjoys the simplest things in life; such as cooking, watching the Oprah Winfrey Network and shopping. She grew up in a home where her mother was obligated to assume the roles of being both mother and father; one which she executed with distinction. She is her mentor and an example of strength.
It is a fact that women are imperative to the growth and strength of society and as such, it is her belief, that the empowerment of women to participate fully in economic life in all sectors is essential, and a path to a firm sense of confidence, independence and individuality.
Against this backdrop, her platform is based on the empowerment of women.
