“I always had a passion for enhancing women’s beauty”

With a name like Lè Cosmètiques that rolls right off the tongue, chicness is expected, and Niketa Hussain is certainly helping generations of Guyanese women create that polished, stylish look.

After an unfortunate experience with a fake beauty product masquerading as the

original and struggling to access authentic brands, a lifelong fascination with make-up bloomed into a thriving business for the certified make-up artist turned entrepreneur.

“… I decided to import brand-name cosmetics for myself and source for other women who were experiencing the same issue…,” she said.

“Lè Cosmètiques by Niketa was formed with the intention of being the number one provider of authentic beauty products and services in Guyana. We are in the evolving beauty industry and we are willing to serve anyone who appreciates what we offer and wants value for their money. We strive to create satisfaction in our products and services. Our services include makeup artistry on brides, models, pageant contestants, etc. Our [product] lines include Kylie Cosmetics, Morphe, Nars, Elf, MAC, Anastasia Beverly Hills, Bare Minerals, Colour Pop, BH Cosmetics and a whole lot more,” the 30-year-old explained.

The response has been, in a word, “fantastic”, and the former St John’s College student credits this to the authenticity of the products and the professionalism of the services provided.

In November 2016, Hussain moved the business, which was established some two years earlier on Facebook, to a physical location inside Kalyan Shopping Plaza on Lamaha Street.

The Diamond, East Bank Demerara resident’s success has been hard-won, but she has been equal to the challenge. “It is not easy. It’s all about being organised and being prioritised…My favourite way of doing this is by using Google Calendar… I have learnt that being a young female entrepreneur, time management is very important as well as being persistent. Giving up was – and still is – not an option.”

“Follow your passion – always persevere despite failures, and the naysayers,” she advises.

“Persistence is the key. Keep on trying no matter how many times you fail. You need to be passionate about your business or your product; nothing works if you are not passionate enough,” the creative young woman added. She noted that her mother – her biggest influence – taught her to believe in herself and to work hard to achieve anything she wanted.

Hussain is hoping to take Le Cosmetiques by Niketa countrywide, and is optimistic about her business’s prospects. “Because we are in the evolving beauty industry, trends change every day and the people we cater to are keeping up to date. Whatever the circumstances are in Guyana, I believe that women will always take care of themselves and use products we offer to enhance their beauty which will help to boost their self-confidence.”

She believes that for entrepreneurs “education is the key, and hassle-free access to grants and loans from financial institutions” would increase their chances of success. Earlier, in 2017, the young entrepreneur graduated from ActionCOACH’s business training programme.

Like her dream mentor Richard Branson, Hussain is filled with self-belief and not afraid of a challenge or the unknown: “Success is getting out of your comfort zone to achieve your goals.”
