Leguan man remanded for drug charge

Vishal Masedas, 21, of Endeavour, Leguan Island, Region Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara) was on Wednesday remanded to prison for the possession of narcotic for the purpose of trafficking.
He made his appearance before magistrate Sunil Scarce at the Anna Regina Magistrate Court. The man initially pleaded guilty but due to his explanation a not guilty plea was recorded.
Masedas was arrested on September 11 at Enterprise, Leguan for being in possession of 48.2 grams of cannabis.
Acting on information police from Leguan visited Enterprise and spotted a speed boat from where the defendant threw a black bag into the river. Police retrieved the bag and a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis was discovered. He was told of the offence and arrested.
The unrepresented Masedas was remanded to prison until September 27, 2016.
